Ahrens designed and constructed the 4,100m2 retail hardware store location as part of Barossa Co-Operative’s multi-million-dollar redevelopment.

Works included demolition of existing infrastructure – the former Mitre 10 trade site. Latent ground works, like hidden underground cellars and wells, proved to be a challenge, but Ahrens were able to deliver the project under budget and one month early.

Ahrens sought a more cost-effective and time-conducive design by eliminating the need for smoke spill fans. An alternative solution was implemented by installing electronic roller shutters and sliding doors which would automatically open in the event of a fire. On completion, the team carried out a smoke test to demonstrate the automatic door/window system would provide adequate smoke ventilation.
