Leonie Bryant, Ahrens’ Production Coordinator for Rural Queensland, has been working with the company for almost a quarter of a century. With her 25-year anniversary looming next year, Leonie’s outstanding efforts, achievements and loyalty is to be highly commended.

Beginning her career with M & S Steel Buildings in 1984 in Goombungee, around 40kms north-west of Toowoomba, Leonie worked within the company for a few years before embarking on a new adventure. In 1998, Leonie approached the then owners of M & S Steel Buildings, Keith and Paisley Mathieson, for any job opportunities. Understanding Leonie’s work ethic, and knowledge of the industry, she was employed as an Administration Assistant starting the following week.

Moving into the role of accounts and payroll, Leonie spent a year learning this aspect of the business, before being encouraged by the general manager to pursue the vacant position of logistics manager.

Taking on the challenge, Leonie’s role now involved production scheduling of jobs throughout the factory, council approvals, scheduling concreters and shed erectors, as well as the delivery of sheds throughout Queensland. Soon thereafter, Ahrens acquired the business in 2002, expanding further into the fabrication and construction of sheds, large industrial buildings and commercial structures.

Leonie continued in this position for years to come, always exemplifying what it means to be a true Ahrens asset and role model to fellow peers in the industry. It is without saying, she rose to the occasion, and shone in within her new role.

Leonie was promoted to Operations Manager in 2018, after being encouraged (again) to pursue this role. Ahrens recognised Leonie’s resilient and hard-working nature, and knew Leonie would be up for the challenge. Leonie reflects, “this was my biggest challenge ever but I had loads of support from within the Ahrens team across all the different states”.

Throughout her time with Ahrens, Leonie has been very grateful for the support offered by not only Ahrens as a company, but the people who work within the business, “there is always someone willing to offer advice, encouragement and help through tough times”.

When asked to reflect on her fondest memories, Leonie mentions the yearly functions when all the divisions would get together in South Australia, she always felt so accepted by the Ahrens family, and for that she is forever thankful for.

These days Leonie is the Production Coordinator of the Goombungee factory, wearing many hats within her role, she covers stock control, purchasing, client liaison and scheduling of deliveries, whilst also helping the teams with reception, sales and support. Whilst there is never a dull moment for Leonie when working at Ahrens, her support of the business has been a driving factor to the success of the rural division. Leonie has become part of the very lifeline of Ahrens, and for that we are truly grateful for her.
